A Ramble Through Ravenna Park

Seattle has many urban green spaces, and Ravenna Park is one of the most unusual. It is pretty heavily wooded and runs diagonally compared to the surrounding city blocks. It runs from near Greenlake at the northwest end and goes through an approximately 115-foot-deep ravine to emerge near the University Village shopping center at its southeast end. It is about a half-mile long and has playfield, picnic spots and playgrounds at each end. Technically, Cowen Park is the northwest terminus of Ravenna Park, and the 15th Ave NE bridge is the border between the two parks.

I go from southeast to northwest in this walk and it is a great mix of creek noises, city ambience, and gravel crunching. It is a typical Seattle grey winter day and even sprinkles a bit. The ravine is vibrant with greens and is its usual beautiful self. Please enjoy this beautiful Seattle park!
