A Ramble Along the First Hill Trolley to Pioneer Square

This one runs along the 1st Hill Trolley line from Capitol Hill, in front of Seattle Central College, through the International District, into Pioneer Square, Seattle’s oldest neighborhood. It is the longer of the two surface trolleys in Seattle and, I think, the more interesting one. I like the “Little Saigon” portion of this walk as it is full of a whole pile of great restaurants. I also like King Street Station. It is Seattle’s Amtrak station and is a beautiful, refurbished brick old-style train station with a 12-story clock tower.

12th and Jackson in the Roaring 20’s and Depression Era was home to half-a-dozen jazz clubs, illegal casinos and speakeasys. The jazz has moved into Pioneer Square and is now home to many galleries and restaurants in addition to jazz. Enjoy!
